"My first few days were made much easier by HeadFirst Group’s structured onboarding process."

Sandhya Srinivasan | Java Developer

Sandhya has been with HeadFirst Group for eight months now and works as a senior Java developer on the engineering team. She was born and raised in India and moved to the Netherlands nine years ago. For six years, she worked at a company specializing in EV charging, where her role primarily revolved around cars, charging stations, and technical systems. Although the work was challenging, she wanted a career where connecting with people was more central. When she discovered HeadFirst Group, it immediately felt like a perfect fit. The organization’s focus on human relationships, combined with her technical expertise, offered her a new direction.

Building Better Matches

“I have always been fascinated by technology. I studied Information Technology and remember being captivated by how the internet and technological advancements were beginning to shape everyday life, long before IT became mainstream.” In her previous roles, she worked on financial systems, payments, and billing processes: complex tasks, but with little focus on the human side of technology.

She is currently working on the Striiveplatform. Her main responsibility is ensuring accurate and efficient matches between candidates and job openings, something she describes as “matchmaking, but for careers.” “I enjoy the level of detail this work requires, and the ability to see how small improvements can create meaningful impact. Data-driven development allows me to analyze why candidates might miss an opportunity and adjust the system to improve results.”

Team Culture

Sandhya’s team, humorously nicknamed “the cats,” embodies focus and independence. The team consists of a product manager, several developers, a QA specialist, and a data analyst, all of whom work together to optimize the search & match strategy.

“I recall that my first few days were made easier by HeadFirst Group’s structured onboarding process, which included formal introductions and an assigned mentor who guided me to the right people for different questions.” The company culture made a strong impression on her. “Expertise is abundant across the organization, and colleagues are always willing to share knowledge.” Sandhya appreciates the trust and autonomy she experiences in her work and says: “HeadFirst Group doesn’t micromanage. I can work at my own pace and take ownership. Moreover, I appreciate the inclusive environment and diversity, especially the strong representation of women across departments, which I find both welcoming and inspiring.”

“It’s really satisfying to see something I worked on in the morning already making a difference by the evening”

Visible results

One of the things Sandhya values most is the impact of her work. She sees the results of her contributions every day. “It’s really satisfying to see something I worked on in the morning already making a difference by the evening.” Recruiters can respond to updates, and candidates see improved matches almost immediately.

Working across multiple regions also presents unique challenges and learning opportunities. She observes differences in how users interact with the platform: “Dutch candidates often take their time to search thoroughly before making offers, whereas US users tend to act faster and make quicker decisions.” Understanding these patterns enables her team to effectively tailor the platform to each market, striking a balance between user behavior and technical solutions.

Room for growth

HeadFirst Group actively encourages employees to pursue their interests, and this has allowed Sandhya to further deepen her expertise in backend development. “I really appreciate that my manager and team trust me to take the lead on backend projects and explore challenges in depth.”

International collaboration has also contributed to her growth. Working with American teams on various platforms requires her to understand new requirements, workflows, and expectations. Translating these into effective technological solutions has broadened her perspective and strengthened her problem-solving skills. “It’s exciting to see how the same platform is used differently across countries and to figure out how we can adapt it to meet everyone’s needs.”

Recognition, work-life balance, and job satisfaction

Although Sandhya doesn’t have direct contact with candidates, she plays a crucial role in ensuring that the system runs smoothly behind the scenes. “Even if I’m not on the front lines, it feels great to know my work makes a real difference for recruiters and candidates.” Her contributions are recognized and appreciated throughout the organization, which provides a strong sense of fulfillment. Celebrations, too—from small team milestones to company-wide events—contribute to a positive work environment.

Sandhya particularly appreciates the work-life balance in the Netherlands. Unlike her previous experiences, she no longer feels guilty when she takes time for herself or has the evenings off. “Being able to focus on my work and still have time for myself makes me feel more productive and fulfilled,” she explains. The combination of meaningful work, appreciation, autonomy, and balance makes HeadFirst a place where she can grow professionally without sacrificing her personal life.

Sandhya’s transition from a technical role to a people-oriented, international position at HeadFirst Group demonstrates her adaptability and curiosity. By combining her technical expertise with a commitment to making a real impact, she brings HeadFirst Group’s mission to life: meaningfully connecting talent and opportunities.
